• PORTAL WITH NREAL / ROOM DESIGN

PORTAL with Nreal is an at-home immersive shopping and brand experience. For the exhibition at CES, we designed a 3-meter by 3-meter booth to make users feel they are in their own room. While the simple use of two colors, black and white, formed the base tone of the world of PORTAL, the booth was designed to have the enough number of feature points and support Nreal Light’s spatial recognition. The quality and technical stability of the PORTAL experience on the stage of CES were ensured by the careful design of the booth and its interior design.

  • Balancing SLAM stability and design

PORTAL WITH NREAL TURNS YOUR LIVING ROOM INTO A VIRTUAL BOUTIQUE WHERE YOU CAN PREVIEW A COLLECTION OF ITEMS WITH 3D FASHION MODELS AND EXPERIENCE SEAMLESS SHOPPING EMPOWERED BY AR TECHNOLOGY. IN ADDITION TO THE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE, PORTAL PROPOSES THE IDEA OF “ROOM FILTER,” A DECORATION OF SPACE WITH VIRTUAL BRAND ITEMS. IN COLLABORATION WITH NREAL, PORTAL WITH NREAL WAS EXHIBITED AT CES 2020 for the purpose of demonstrating THE FUTURE OF AR-POWERED SHOPPING EXPERIENCE. PORTAL WITH NREAL HAS WON THE AUGGIE AWARDS FOR BEST CAMPAIGN IN 2020 OUT OF MORE THAN 200 APPLICANTS. THIS IS THE VERY FIRST TIME AMONG JAPANESE SOFTWARE COMPANIES.

  • Designing Two TYPES OF AR markers

We designed two AR markers for PORTAL with Nreal: A round table in front of a chair, and a large wall art with the size of 900mm x 900mm. When designing these AR markers, we addressed a number of constrains to improve to make them easy to detect from AR glasses, but also to harmonize them with the concept of PORTAL and other parts of the room interior. The table was designed as the main marker for the AR experience and the gateway to the PORTAL experience. The table marker was also designed in a marble-like style with a large logo in the middle to create a well-balanced impression as a marker and a designed interior object. The wall art is for drawing the user into the world of PORTAL when the experience starts and for creating a rich experience during the experience. The artwork was originally used at PORTAL BY JOSEPH. For the PORTAL booth, it was framed and displayed with multiple art objects to blend it in the room design. It looked like an art in an ordinary living room. The holistic approach to spatial design is important, especially for immersive experiences like PORTAL. We tried to make the markers blend into the space, rather than simply placing markers for device control. We believe this approach lets users immerse themselves more deeply into space and focus on experiences we want to deliver.
